Bailliage de la Thailande
Le Chaîne des Rôtisseurs,
Bailliage de la Thailande, unites professional chefs, hoteliers, and
non-professional gastronomes in a private, non-profit-making society committed
to promotion of the culinary arts and hospitality through example, education,
and camaraderie.
Based on the great traditions and
high standards of the medieval French guild of rotisseurs or "meat roasters",
our confrerie celebrates the pleasures of the table, encourages the development
of young professionals, and as part of an international organization fosters
friendships among members around the world.
The Thailand Chapter was established in 1974 and had its first gala dinner at the,
then, Hilton Hotel on Silom Road in Bangkok. 34 members and Committee members
were installed with the first Bailli Delegue of the society, H.S.H. Prince
Karawik Chakrabandhu. At that time most of the members were
professional members (hoteliers) who were already in membership in
other countries. Others were dignitaries and distinguished businessmen from Thai
and foreign companies. For the last 30 years the Thai Chapter had many
movements as members (professional and non-professionals) moved to other
countries or eventually passed away.
The Chaîne is honoured that several members
of the Thai Royal Family have joined us as their most prestigious members. A
Number of Ambassadors became members and were later moved to new postings in
other countries.
There has always been keen interest by other people to join the Bangkok Chapter, which
has had an average membership of around 120 members all these years. Many
celebrated dinner events have been held such as an overnight trip to the Bridge
on the River Kwai on the Eastern & Oriental Express train (which was
chartered by the Chaîne), a Captain’s Dinner on the Seabourne Spirit (a luxury
liner), and some memorable events at Ambassadors residences, some at members
private homes, at many elegant restaurants and at many famous
hotels.
Apart from the National Chapter in Bangkok there are also two Regional Chapters in
Thailand. The Chapter in Pattaya was established in 1995 and the one in Phuket
in 2003. A very special event was organised in November 2004 to celebrate the 30th
anniversary. We were very pleased that several members of other countries
worldwide joined us.
